A Burmese freighter returning to Myanmar navigates the Mekong River on a stretch between Laos and Thailand, passing sandbars caused by record low water levels. The river is at a 'worrying level',according to the Mekong River Commission, partly due to outflow restrictions from Chinese hydropower dams upstream. Traffic has been seriously reduced.
The northern Thai - Myanmar land border is closed due to political unrest, preventing crossborder trade.
