Indonesian government releases over 50,000 illegally fished lobster 'seeds'

The Indonesian government released a large catch of illegally fished lobster larvae, or 'seeds', back into the waters off West Sumatra.

The West Sumatra Marine and Fisheries Service together with the Jambi Provincial Customs Team released the 53,290 clear lobster seeds on February 24.

The seeds were illegally fished for export to Vietnam, and have been released into the the waters of Jambi province.

The Head of the West Sumatra Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service, Yosmeri commented: "Of the 53,290 lobster seeds, 50,490 sand type lobsters and 2,800 pearl lobster seeds are of the highest interest, both of which are types that are of interest to lobster cultivating countries such as Vietnam.

"All the lobster seeds are packed very neatly with plastic filled with oxygen that makes the lobster seeds survive.

"Since January 2021 to February 23, 2021, his party has released 5 times lobster seeds in the waters of Padang City with a total of 700,000 lobster seeds released,"
