The Thailand northern border town of Mae Sai has no trade with Myanmar and few tourists
The main road of Mae Sai normally sees hundreds of goods vehicles each day crossing into or leaving Myanmar. Now there are none due to the border closure, and few tourists due to Covid restrictions. Local businesses are struggling,hotels are virtually empty.
On a hilltop above the town,monks of Wat Phra That Doi Wao are preparing for the important Buddha day of Makha Bucha which falls this year on February 26. The temple is also known as the Scorpion Temple and has spectacular views of the border.
