Five men were shot in an apparent random shooting in the gang and crime-ridden township of Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, in Cape Town's notorious Cape Flats on Saturday (February 27).

The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage.

On Friday four young men were shot and killed in the neighbouring township of Beacon Valley. No motive has been established for that killing either.

Bystanders said three men parked close by and then exited their vehicle and went on a shooting spree at around 12pm today (27 February). Five men were hit by bullets. Four of the men succumbed to their bullet wounds while a fifth man was admitted to hospital with injuries and later released.

One of the men killed was a 65 year old pensioner who was well known and fondly remembered by the community. His sister, Mareldia Cogland, says he was a responsible family man and that his murder could not be gang related.

The incident took place in Maureen Crescent, Tafelsig.
