A grumpy Leopard in a tree with her kill

Leopards (Panthera pardus) are immensely strong with a thick skull and massive jaw muscles. They are able to haul prey heavier than themselves for hundreds of metres, then drag the carcass into a tree to prevent it being stolen by Hyaenas or Lions. This old female Leopard had cached an antelope, probably a young Kudu, in a Marula tree in southern Kruger National Park. She was restless, moving around in the tree, rearranging her kill and then finally relaxing on a thick branch. We stayed with her for more than 20 minutes. She didn’t seem to mind our presence and began grooming her beautiful spotted coat. However, she became agitated when another car arrived. She snarled at these intruders and left the tree shortly after.
