CHELMSFORD MURDER UPDATE: A 22 year old Chelmsford man accused of stabbing an older man to death appeared at the city's Crown Court earlier today (May 8, 2013)

Michael James Brennan, a cleaner, of The Green, Melbourne estate, made no plea to one count of murder on May 3, 2013, in Moulsham Street, Chelmsford.

Brennan was remanded in custody until July 8 when he will return for a Plea and Case Management Hearing (PCMH)

The previous day, Brennan, wearing a red turtle neck top, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates Court.

He did not speak other than to give his date of birth, August, 20, 1990, and home address.

His mother attended both court hearings.

The body of Paul Simons, 54, of Bushey, near Watford, Herts, was discovered in a flat above Tesco Express by Essex Police at about 12.30am on May 4.

A post-mortem has revealed Mr Simons died as a result of stab wounds with a knife, one piercing his heart.
