The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched Brazil's Amazonia-1 satellite on-board its Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) C51 from southern India's Andhra Pradesh on February 28. The launch took place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.

Visuals witnessing the incident feature the final countdown, following which the satellite rockets towards the sky. Dense clouds of white smoke engulf the region as the launch vehicle soars into the sky. Meanwhile, the officials behold the experience, make announcements regarding the launch, and cheer the proceedings.

The 637-kg (1404 lbs) Amazonia-1 is the optical earth observation satellite associated with the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the research unit of Brazil's ministry of science. Moreover, PSLV C51/Amazonia-1 is the first dedicated commercial mission of the NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a public Indian company under the Department of Space.

It is undertaking this mission under a commercial arrangement with the United States-based launch services and mission management provider, Spaceflight Inc. Moreover, the satellite aims at strengthening the existing structure by providing remote sensing data to users for monitoring deforestation in the Amazon region. It also analyzes diversified agriculture across the Brazilian territory.

ISRO also launched 18 other satellites, along with Amazonia-1, which are intended for providing Radio relay services. Moreover, the Prime Minister of the country, Narendra Modi, congratulated NSIL and ISRO on the success of their first dedicated commercial launch.
