Residents were shocked when a hailstorm battered homes in Selangor, Malaysia on March 3.

Marble-sized hailstones rained down from the sky before locals picked them up from the ground to hold the ice – an unusual weather phenomenon in the tropical southeast Asian country.

Rafidah Mehat, from the Cheras city, said: ‘I heard strange noises and thought were just kids playing with stones, because it hadn’t rained for many days.

‘This is the first time I’ve witnessed such a phenomenon.’
