One person is in critical condition after an officer-involved shooting in Riverside, California.

Shortly after midnight on Monday (March 8), officers responded to reports of a shooting at 1788 University Ave when another shooting happened, this time involving an officer.

Footage of the aftermath shows the area cordoned off and police vehicles at the scene.

A second individual was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation is underway.

Riverside Police Officers were investigating an officer involved shooting that took place at the scene of a separate shooting. Shortly after midnight, Officers responded to reports of a shooting at 1788 University Ave behind the Enterprise Rent a Car in the Gown Center Shopping mall. An officer involved shooting then occurred. Two people were transported to local trauma centers, one in critical condition. A large amount of evidence markers and other material were scattered on the ground where the shooting occurred. It's unknown at this time what led to the shooting or if any officers were injured. The Town Center Parking lot remains closed pending the conclusion of the investigation.
