Long lines formed outside the Luna Park stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Tuesday (March 9) as over-80s waited to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Two thousand one hundred people are expected to be vaccinated daily with Russia's Sputnik V vaccine.

With long lines due to delays and lack of organization, as well as without any seats to wait, the government of the City of Buenos Aires launched the vaccination campaign at the Luna Park Stadium, one of the centers given free of charge to the district to carry out the immunization process for adults over 80 years of age and nursing home residents.

From this Tuesday, March 9, the building located in the block delimited by Bouchard, Lavalle streets and Eduardo Madero and Corrientes avenues, in the San Nicolás neighborhood of Buenos Aires, became a vaccination center and it is expected to be able to apply a total of 2,100 doses daily Sputnik V vaccine to older adults.

During the beginning of the first vaccination day, on the outskirts of the property, the organization, both from the administrative and health aspects, was overwhelmed with lines of more than a block, with people crowded together and without the required social distance, including older adults waiting standing without chairs in which to rest.

Long lines, where the distance of 2 meters recommended to prevent coronavirus infections was not respected, could be observed from 8 in the morning, the time at which the operation began.

The vaccination campaign for adults over 80 years of age in the City began on February 22 and so far there are 72,000 registered, of which 23,500 are already being contacted to obtain a shift.

In turn, tomorrow, teachers and non-teachers of public and private schools in the City of Buenos Aires will begin to be vaccinated, according to the Buenos Aires government through a statement.

"It will be vaccinated in a staggered manner following the priority stages defined in the Federal Council of Education," the text reported.
