Senegal opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has called for more protests against President Macky Sall after he was released on bail on Monday (March 8).

Footage shows protesters on the streets of Dakar calling for the release of Sonko on Monday (March 8).

Sonko's arrest led to several days of unrest with police clashing with protesters in several parts of the country.

Clashes and violent demonstrations have occurred in several areas of central Dakar ahead of legal hearings involving opposition politician Ousmane Sonko March 8.
Protesters have clashed with security forces in the vicinity of the Universite Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD), with security forces using tear gas to disperse participants.
An increased security presence has also been reported in the Plateau area of the city and at the Palais de Justice.
One of the demonstrators, Mouhamed Sarr, explained his motivation as follows:
[0:55-1:19] – I am here because I am simply a patriot, because I am Senegalese and not because I support Ousmane Sonko. I came to demonstrate for justice and democracy to be restored in this country. All that motivates me to demonstrate for others and not for myself. My family, my dad and my mom call me all the time.
Another Senegalese resident, Ousmane Sy, said the following in his interview:
[1:20-1:48] – It is very difficult. We have been working since last Wednesday. We can't even pay our bills. The government has established a curfew at the night and during the day there are demonstrations. It's really hard for us, who are in the informal sector. We hope that peace will return to Senegal.
