A 60-year-old man was rescued after climbing a powerline following a family altercation in northern India.

The incident took place in the village of Jahanpur near, Dholpur in Rajasthan, where the man Sobran Singh climbed the electrical pole on March 7th.

Singh, a widower and father of five, was reportedly arguing with his family about wanting to re-marry following the death of his wife four years earlier. After repeated resistance from his family towards the proposition, he went to a nearby patch of farmland and climbed a high-tension pole to commit suicide.

Fortunately the pole was not live at the time, however Singh refused to come down, and a crowd of onlookers gathered nearby.

Family members called the power company to cut power to the line, while people from the crowd called out to talk him down. Eventually one of the villagers climbed the pole and helped Singh down.
