Smith’s Bush Squirrels, also known as Tree Squirrels (Paraxerus cepapi), are the most common squirrel in the wooded savanna of Southern Africa. This pair of squirrels discovered a small Southern African Python (Python sebae natalensis) in a hollow of a dead Leadwood tree near the Pafuri Picnic Spot in the northern part of Kruger National Park. They began ‘mobbing’ the python, flicking their tails and making their harsh, chattering calls, warning wildlife nearby that a snake was close by. As snakes cannot hear airborne sound, the python was unmoved by the squirrel’s chattering and tail-flicking.
