Namibian kayaker removes fishing line from distressed seal pup's neck
A kayaker filmed as he removed a fishing line from a distressed seal pup's neck in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
A GoPro on Schalk Louw's recorded as he removed a castaway fishing line from a seal pup's neck in March 2020.
After Louw carefully removes the line from around the marina mammal's neck he releases the pup.
He told Newsflare: "I run to the rescue of a baby fur seal that was entangled in fishing line. The fishing line cut in quite deep and was very painful and certainly life-threatening to the baby seal.
"I managed to cut the line off and the seal was free to play again. They have strong immune systems and will heal quite quickly especially with saltwater."
