A heroic fireman was lowered upside down into a 0.5-metre-diameter and 8-metre-deep abandoned well to save a 4-year-old boy trapped inside in northern China.

In the video, shot in the city of Renqiu in Hebei Province on March 12, a fireman used a shovel to dig the mud away from a well.

Another fireman tied by safety ropes was then lowered down into the narrow and deep well upside down to rescue the trapped boy.

According to reports, the road underneath the boy suddenly collapsed when he was playing, causing him to drop into the well.

Five fire engines and 30 firefighters were sent to the site to rescue the boy. The firefighters delivered oxygen down into the well continuously and they used an excavator to dig the mud and tear down the pipes before sending a fireman down into the well to rescue.

After around 40 minutes, the boy was rescued successfully.

3月12日，河北省任丘市吕公堡镇陈庄村一名4岁男童不慎坠入一口废弃机井内。事发后，消防、民警、医护、挖掘机等纷纷赶往现场实施救援。
3月12日16时40分，沧州市消防救援支队任丘市会战北道站接到报警，立即调派距离现场最近的吕公堡消防站出动1部消防车和6名消防员赶赴现场，同时调派会战北道站、北站路站4部消防车和24名消防员到场增员。在出警途中通讯员联系报警人询问现场情况，紧急调用挖掘机，并提醒报警人拨打120。
16时55分，消防员到场，经过现场勘查和询问得知：被困男童与爷爷在自家菜地玩耍时，不慎坠入废弃的农田灌溉水井中。井口直径在50公分左右，水井深度在8米左右，井内少量积水。孩子在井底一直哭泣，心里非常害怕，一直在喊爸爸，听着孩子的哭喊声十分揪心。根据情况，消防员立即展开救援，为防止孩子缺氧，持续对井内进行输氧，指挥挖掘机对周边进行挖土作业，逐层去除井管，缩短机井长度，以缩短救援距离。挖掘机清除井口附近石土时，孩子的父亲和几名消防员始终护在井口安抚孩子，为了避免掉落的土石对孩子造成二次伤害，找来一个钢盆扣在井口处。
在两段井管被顺利移除后，现场指挥员观察情况后，判定下井救人时机成熟。消防员在井口搭设固定救援三脚架，消防员庄伟达做好防护后，携带安全绳，以倒挂金钩方式下井救援，庄伟达将安全绳套在男童身上，并用双手牢牢抓住男童。随后，众人合力将他和男童从井中拉出。
17时36分，经过40分钟的紧张救援，男童成功脱险。看到儿子被成功救出，孩子家长情绪激动，不禁向在场的消防员下跪，表达感激之情，周围群众也纷纷鼓掌。
据男童的伯伯赵先生介绍，当天下午4点多，孩子从幼儿园放学回家后，和爷爷奶奶在自家菜地周边玩。孩子拿着他心爱的小汽车玩具，蹲在地上，玩得很开心。奶奶在一旁笑着看着他。突然，地面塌陷，孩子坠了下去。孩子奶奶惊呼一声，孩子的爷爷扭头一看，已经不见了孙子的踪影。从孩子掉下去的地方往下看，他们才知道那是一口井。事后他们得知，这口井已经废弃，被掩埋20多年了。两位老人急忙大声呼救。闻讯赶来的村民也帮着联系孩子的父母、伯伯，并拨打了119、120等急救电话。
