The Elephant and Castle shopping centre demolition is well under way, as the case on its planning approval is being heard at the Court of Appeal.

A long-awaited legal challenge against High Court decision to approve the redevelopment of a large urban site at Elephant and Castle is being held remotely on 16 and 17 March 2021, online and open to the public.

The claim for judicial review, brought by local campaigner Jerry Flynn, of the 35% Campaign, supported by local campaigners Up the Elephant, was dismissed after a two-day High Court hearing in December 2019.
The legal challenge centres on the provision of social rented housing by the Elephant and Castle developer Delancey. The campaigners are fighting to get an additional 42 social-rented homes, on top of the 116 which they have already faught for and won. These will be the last to be built, in around 10 years' time, out of nearly 1,000 new homes across the current sites of the Shopping Centre and London College of Communication.
