The State Security Court (SSC) held its public session to announce the verdict against the 17 defendants involved in the Zarqa crime case, wherein six of the defendants were sentenced to death by hanging.
Additionally, two defendants were sentenced to one year in prison, one defendant was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and another to 10 years in prison, while finding seven to be innocent.
The remaining defendant is still at large.
On Oct. 13, 2020, a 16-year-old boy from Zarqa was beaten, had his eyes gouged and his forearms amputated.
According to a statement made by the teenager,who was later identified as Salah, a group of people blocked his way and took him to an empty area where they beat him using sharp tools due to a crime his relatives commited that relates to them.
Following the incident, Saleh underwent multiple surgeries on his eyes and arms.
Notably, 50 witnesses provided testimonies for the prosecution and defense of the case.
The court indicted nine counts of charges those involved in the case, namely:
1- Terrorist acts that endangers the safety and security of society, creating terror among people and endangering lives by using deadly weapons.
2- The felony of forming a villainous gang.
3- The felony of attempted murder.
4- The felony of causing a permanent disability.
5- The felony of joint criminal kidnapping associated with indecent assault.
6- The felony of indecent assault by defeating the victim's resistance.
7- Resisting arrest.
8- Possession of sharp tools.
9- Possession of an unlicensed firearm.
In November 2020, the defendants denied all charges against them.
In an interview with Roya after the sentencing, Salah said that he is in good health, he said "I am in good health."
He also thanked his Majesty King Abullah II, saying "I want to thank his Majesty the King for standing by my side and giving a just sentence."
He continued "I would also like to thank the Jordanian people and the Arab countries for supporting me."
