A judge at the Tondano District Court, North Sulawesi, decided to change the sex status of a TNI soldier Serda Aprilia Santini Manganang to a male. The judge also decided that the name Aprilia Manganang change its name to Aprilio Perkasa Manganang. This trial was held online on Friday, 19 March 2021.
Aprilio Manganang was previously an athlete for the Indonesian Women's Volleyball National Team. He experienced hypospadias or abnormalities in the genital organs. Because of his achievements in volleyball, he became a TNI soldier.
Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa helped Aprilia Manganang carry out hypospadias-related checks and confirmed Aprilia was a man.
