Indonesian local residents were shocked by banana trees that can bear fruit in two bunches at once.

This banana tree in Kampung Gaduik, Agam district, West Sumatra attracted attention after it flowered and produced two separate fruit bunches, with two male buds.

Owner Azmi, 46, said she became aware of the uniqueness of her banana tree planted at backyard a month ago.

Initially, said Azmi, this banana tree grew as usual, but after fruiting it showed an oddity because it was able to bear two bunches at once.

At that time, according to her, there were two parts of the banana heart, which continued to grow properly. This banana tree is also taller than other banana trees nearby.

"It was just a month ago. This is the power of God," Azmi added.

Owner planned that after the bananas were ripe and cut down, the fruit would be divided among orphans and for posterity.

Meanwhile, researchers from the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding, LIPI Biology Research Center in West Java, Yuyu Suryasari Poerba previously mentioned that banana trees can produce more than one bunch of fruit at a time due to unstable natural mutations.

"This phenomenon is common in bananas. The cause is not clear, but one possibility is a natural mutation," she said.

Footage filmed on March 21.
