At about 3:00 am, Hemet Police Officers initiated a traffic stop on a dark colored pickup truck in the area of Latham Ave and Valley View Dr. The suspect brandished a firearm and shot at officers, then drove away with officers in chase. Officers cornered him in the Sears parking lot at the Hemet Valley Mall near Gilmore and Latham Ave where he brandished the firearm again, prompting officers to open fire on the armed suspect. Medical was called in for a gunshot wound to the head. The suspect who was still talking was transported to local trauma center with major injuries. The cause for the stop or any other information surrounding the incident is not known at this time and more will be available soon via press release.
