People in Tokyo headed to the city's parks to enjoy cherry blossom viewing on the weekend, following the lifting of the state of emergency there.

Yoyogi park is one of Tokyo's most popular spots for viewing 'sakura'.

The video, shot on Saturday 27th March, shows many people enjoying the 'hanami' cherry blossom viewing on the first weekend after the cancellation of the state of emergency. Numbers were boosted by weather forecasts predicting rain on Sunday.

Unlike pre-pandemic years however, there were barriers to prevent people gathering to picnic at the best hanami spots, as is traditional. However, there were many people sitting and enjoying the sakura outside of the barricades. There were far fewer of them than normal however.

There are several famous spots for viewing sakura cherry blossom in Tokyo and the Yoyogi park is one of the most popular spots for both locals and tourists. The video shot on Saturday 27th April shows that there are many people enjoying sakura on the first weekend after the cancellation of state of emergency. The weather focust said Sunday would be rain so it seems that many people think to go watching sakura on Saturday. There are still barricades no to people enter the best sakura spots, however, there are many people sitting and enjoying sakura outside of the barricades. The cameraman said there are much less people drinking under cherry blossom this year so there are not many trash.
