A group of mothers at a village in western India took up a long distance race barefoot as part of a ritual to bless their newborn sons.

This unique tradition, seen here on March 28, has been practiced in Brahmanwada village, Gujarat, for last five to six hundred years.

This tradition is mainly followed in Chaudhary community in the village by mothers who recently gave birth to sons for the first time, as they run for a kilometre barefoot while their hands are bound.

The race starts from the Goga Maharaj temple to the Veraj Mata temple which is about one-and-a-half kilometres. The mother fasts for a whole day beforehand, and both mother and son wear new clothes during the event.

The winner of the race is believed to receive special blessings from the temple goddess for her son.

These Mothers are running barefoot in a scorching heat for their new-born sons , this unique tradition is being followed in Patan’s Brahmanwada village ( Gurat) for last five to six hundred years . This tradition is mainly followed in Chaudhary community in the village where the mother who has given birth to son for the first time runs holding their sons in hand for over a Kilometre barefoot , The hands of the mother who take part in the race are tied with cloth by the priest also the mother hair is tied with the child during the Marathon .
The race starts from Goga Maharaj temple to Veraj Mata temple which is about one and a half Km long . Mother keeps fast for whole day , the mother and the son wear a new dress .To watch this Mother trace villagers and family members gather in large numbers. other women in the family also run together to help in this race. Then go to the temple of Verai Mata and pay obeisance to Mataji. There is a belief that the woman who comes first in this race goddess special blessings are bestowed on her son . . Later, all the fasting and running women in the temple are blessed by Mataji's priest in the temple. Later this race of faith is considered complete.
There is a say that this tradition is followed by mother to keep their son healthy and strong . This time this Race happened on 28th March
