Wildlife officials in Sri Lanka's North Central Province rescued an elephant calf found with gunshot wounds.

Footage from March 12 shows officials feeding the distressed calf as they tie it to a tree.

Residents in Ganewalpola called wildlife officials after they found the 1-and-a-half-year-old calf was separated from its mother.

Upon medical inspection, several injuries were found on the elephant calf's body, including gunshot wounds.

Wildlife officials rescued a wild elephant calf in Sri Lanka's North Central Province on March 12. The incident took place in Kekirawa, located in Anuradhapura.

A video features the forest officials taming the elephant calf. They tie it around a tree with ropes and caress it to calm it down. Later, they feed the jumbo while it curls its trunk to grab the food items. The baby elephant eats at its own pace while the officials stand in its proximity.
