Dust storms turned the sky yellow in New Delhi, India, on Tuesday afternoon (March 30).

Footage shows the thick clouds of dirt and dust blocking the clear sky and bringing darkness to the city of Gurugram.

Dust storms are caused when strong wind whips through an area that has been ravaged by dry weather and drought. The gusts then collect pieces of dried soil and earth that have broken away from the ground’s surface before picking them up and clouding the air.

Gurugram was declared as the most polluted city of the world in 2018 and its air quality was 17 times poorer than the prescribed safe limit by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
