Air pollution from wildfires blanketed northeastern Thailand this morning (April 1).

The fires were started by farmers to clear waste crops from their fields in Nakhon Ratchasima as they prepare the land for the coming rainy season.

The fire produced the haze that covered more several miles of nearby roads blinding car drivers and motorcycle riders.

Local officials warned farmers not to burn the fields as the smoke could lead to road accidents and send the levels of harmful PM 2.5 particles in the atmosphere soaring.

Ministers have been battling for the last three years to control the country’s air pollution problem but have so far been unable to reduce it.
