Drone images of almost empty streets of Quezon City as Filipinos celebrates Easter Sunday. Filipinos marked the lenten, one of the most solemn week in the predominantly Roman Catholic nation, with almost deserted / empty streets and churches following a strict lockdown to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Even though churches were closed, Catholic faithfuls pray outside the church on easter morning.

During Easter Sunday, Catholics flocked to different churches to participate 'salubong,' a religious procession reenacting the reunion of risen Christ and his mother Mary.

Metro Manila and four outlying provinces namely Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal were hauntingly quiet after religious gatherings were banned and curfew expanded to 11 hours starting at 6 p.m. to 5pm the next day.

After the Holy Week lockdown, the Philippine government has imposed another week of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) which is until April 11, 2021 after the Department of Health, some mayors, and the independent OCTA Research group endorsed the extension of the lockdown to contain the surge of COVID19 cases.

As of April 3, 2021, the Philippines has recorded 784,043 cases of COVID19 patients, making Philippines the highest numbers of infected people in Asia.

To contain the further surge, Philippines has imposed some of the world’s longest police- and military-enforced coronavirus quarantines and lockdowns.
