Customs officials seize gold worth $16,364 from airport in southern India

Air Customs officials seized gold worth Rs. 12 lakh (USD 16,364) from southern India's Chennai International Airport on April 5. The suspects were intercepted at the terminal of the airport.

A video features three bundles wrapped with black adhesive tape. Following this, the officials retrieve gold paste from within the bundles and assemble the molten chunks of the precious metal on the counter.

Around 255 grams (0.5 lbs) of gold worth Rs. 12 lakh (USD 16,364), smuggled on a flight from Dubai was seized at the airport. Following this, two passengers from Ramanathapuram were arrested. Moreover, the passengers of Air India were checked by the customs department, and they recovered and seized the gold from the accused. Furthermore, an investigation into the matter is still underway.
