Summer storms caused flash floods in northeast Thailand over the weekend as the country enters its hot season.

Footage shows the scene in Khon Kaen province as drivers battled through the deluge and struggled with poor visibility caused by the pounding rain.

Hundreds of properties were damaged across the region and many were flooded as drains struggled to cope with the deluge at the start of Thailand’s hot summer season.

Somsak Jangtrakul, Governor of Khon Kaen Province, warned locals to avoid using roads.

The country’s Meteorological Department said the summer storms brought heavy rain, strong wind and hail to the north, northeast, east, central and upper south regions.

They warned said the torrential weather was due to a high-pressure system from China that was moving across the country towards the capital Bangkok.
