An 11th Standard (US: 11th Grade; UK: Year 12) science student in northern India’s Uttar Pradesh has invented a smart school bag he hopes will combat Covid-19.

Visuals shot on April 3 feature the student and the chairman of the school explaining the features of the bag in Aryan International School in Varanasi.

A video features pupil Pushkar Singh and the chairman of the school, Vineet Chopra, explaining the features of the bag he developed in the school’s lab.

It consists of ultrasonic sensors that are activated when the child wears the bag. It rings an alarm and turns on a red light when the wearer is too close to other people.

Pushkar Singh invented the bag under the guidance of teacher Shyam Chaurasia, in order to ensure compliance with social distancing guidelines.

The bag takes two hours to charge and can work for almost five days. Moreover, it also has a barcode that consists of the parent's name of the student, address, phone number, etc. So if the child gets lost, officials can scan the barcode and get the child’s details.

The bag incorporates Arduino, ultrasonic sensors, a 3.7-volt battery, alarm, push switch, barcode, etc.

The chairman of the Aryan International School, Vineet Chopra, wrote a letter to the Chief Minister and the Education Minister, to encourage and motivate the student.
