A herd of elephants strayed onto fields and destroyed several wheat crops and mango plantations in eastern India's West Bengal on April 8.

The incident took place in the village of Tetulia, located in Jhargram.

Eyewitness footage secured with permission shows the herd of elephants invading the wheat fields and straying into the adjacent forest cover. They stomp on the crops and later chase after the locals, ensuing panic among them.

The farmers in the region reportedly incurred heavy losses. The incident took place on Thursday morning. However, the forest officials did not reach the spot till late afternoon.
