Tropical rainstorms cause flash floods in Thailand as rainy season approaches
Tropical rainstorms hit central Thailand causing flash floods and traffic jams as the country’s monsoon rainy season approaches.
Drivers were caught up in the downpour as heavy rain battered Chachoengsao province east of the capital Bangkok for more than two hours on April 7.
Up to 20cm of water covered parts of the province, leading to flash floods outsides several schools and colleges.
The floods also caused long traffic jams forcing cars on the roads to wait in long tailbacks for more than one hour.
Thailand was now entering its hot summer season with temperatures reaching 40C before the rainy season arrives. A high-pressure system from China has also been moving across the country.
The Thai Meteorological Department warned people to be cautious as thundershowers with strong winds were expected from April 10 to 14
