Meet the beautiful Agile Wallaby with a baby Joey in her pouch

Buy video

Agile Wallabies (Macropus agilis) are abundant in the northern part of the Northern Territory, also known as the “Top End” of Australia. Wallabies are small Kangaroos, and their scientific name Macropus means “big foot”. This female Agile Wallaby has a large baby (called a Joey) in her pouch. You can see the tip of the Joey’s tail protruding from the pouch. She was grazing on newly-sprouted grass on the edge of bush that had been burnt deliberately to reduce bushfires in Kakadu National Park. Female Agile Wallabies carry their Joeys in the pouch for 7-8 months, with weaning occurring at 10-12 months and reproductive maturity at 14 months.
