The Thai new year, known as Songkran, falls on April 13. It's a time when many people travel home to celebrate with their families, but for the second year in succession travel has been restricted, this time in 43 of the country's 77 provinces.
Bangkok's main train station is usually crowded, but not now. Similarly, Suvarnabhumi International Airport is noticeably quiet because of Covid 19 restrictions which include quarantine requirements.
Today the government announced a total of 1335 new infections, increasing the grand total to 35,910 with 97 deaths. Internationally,Thailand has been successful in avoiding infections but the current spike has the authorities opening field hospitals as cases continue to rise.
I am currently in self isolation for 14 days following my trip to Bangkok.
