Rally ongoing against construction of Namakhvani HPP in Kutaisi
A rally against the construction of Namakhvani HPP is underway in the center of Kutaisi. Some of the protesters walked from the village of Gumati to Kutaisi. Dozens of people are gathered in the city center. They oppose the construction of the HPP and call on the authorities to understand the scale of the protest.
According to the protesters, it is impossible to deceive the public with slogans, because they have read the terms of the agreement and understand the importance of the protest. According to the locals, Namakhvani HPP will not be built until all the questions are not answered. According to them, the government portrays them as radical groups, however, according to the organizers, their protests are peaceful.
At the same time, according to one of the organizers of the rally, Varlam Goletiani, they are going to stay in Kutaisi overnight.Commotion has occurred in Gumati, near the office of the Enka company, where citizens were protesting against the construction of the Namakhvani HPP. The protesters were chanting “slaves".
Varlam Goletiani, one of the organizers of the rally, called on the protesters to calm down. According to him, the police tried to provoke them.
The protesters are currently leaving the area around the company office and are moving to a tent. As they said, they wanted to show to the company that they are not aggressive and are peacefully trying to express their position.
According to the protesters, if necessary, they will paralyze the Rioni gorge.
