Footage shows a field hospital being built in northeast Thailand today (April 15) as Covid-19 cases increase across the country.

Several temporary wards have been constructed this week to cope with rising numbers of people infected with the virus, who are then ordered into isolation units.

The facility seen in the video in Nakhon Ratchasima province can hold 120 patients. It is expected to be completed tomorrow (April 16).

Wichian Chantarontai, Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima Province said officials were ready to open more field hospitals if numbers rose.

He said: 'The temporary hospitals accommodate patients aged 15 65 years without serious symptoms, no underlying health conditions and who do not need a respirator. This will help reduce the congestion in various hospitals.'

Thailand recorded 1,543 new coronavirus cases today (Apr 15), the highest number since the start of the pandemic and the fourth continuous rise this week.
