A south Indian professor devised an innovative way to recycle electronics and automobile metal scraps by transforming them into attractive and beautiful sculptures.

The artworks of Professor Srinivas Padakandla are installed in various parks and public places for the common people to witness and appreciate.

Padakandla, who hails from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, has tried to encourage people to recycle metal scraps through his metal artworks instead of disposing them off in the junkyards and metal dump yards which may result in harming the environment.

He heads a workshop of 15-20 members who help him create the fine art pieces. He also trains students on how to transform metal into art pieces by sculpting them into various beautiful art forms and sculpture.

Professor Srinivas says, “My motive is to educate the people and the upcoming artists through my artwork. It will not only sensitize the people about scrapping their old automobiles or electronics but will also educate them on how to make better use of them instead of throwing it in the junkyards,

“Filling landfills with metal scraps cause soil pollution and this is an excellent waste management strategy that we have found to save the environment and curb pollution.”

Professor Srinivas Padakandla who hails from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, southern India has tried to encourage people to recycle metal scraps through his metal artworks instead of disposing them off in the junkyards and metal dump yards which may result in harming the environment.

Srinivas heads 15-20 members who help him create the fine art pieces. He also trains students on how to transform metal into art pieces by sculpting them into various beautiful art forms and sculpture.

Srinivas and his team members procure metal scraps from scrap dealers who charge them 50 cents per kilo of metal scraps.

They then bring it to their assembling centre to turn it into various art forms that are later installed in various public places and parks across India.

The team and professor take around a week to build a 15-feet sculpture as they have to sift through scraps to find the exact piece to be used to create a perfect shape.

He uses all kinds of automobile parts like ball bearings and spark plugs to mention a few apart from other complex automobile parts to sculpt out art pieces.

Professor Srinivas says his team is full of passionate metal artists as they are quite excited to create new art forms every time a new scrap consignment arrives.

His mainframe of art consists of one bone frame made out of pipes after which sticking metal scraps around the mainframe is less time taking.

Video shows Mr. Padakandla and his team wielding the metal scraps to create the sculpture. Various forms of metal sculptures can be seen being built as some receives the finishing touch.

Metal sculptures like wildlife, birds and humans with art forms add to his art gallery.

Professor Srinivas says, “My motive is to educate the people and the upcoming artists through my artwork. It will not only sensitize the people about scrapping their old automobiles or electronics but will also educate them on how to make better use of them instead of throwing it in the junkyards.”

Professor Srinivas says, “Turning metal scraps is hitting two birds with a single stone, apart from promoting art, recycling waste metals also contributes to waste management and hence improves the environment when the world is threatened by climate change.”

Professor Srinivas wants to make his artwork accessible to one and all for free as his artwork can be found anywhere in the public parks.
“I want my artworks to be accessible by one and all as everyone cannot afford to visit art galleries. Also, my sculpture promotes art as well imparts education to sensitize the public about waste management,” adds Srinivas."

His work has not only been appreciated by the common people but has also received appreciation by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a radio talk show “Man ki Baat” aired a few weeks back.

He also has received many testimonies and appreciation from eminent personalities like the Governor of Uttarakhand for his incredible art form that helps transform the world into a better place rather than polluting the environment.

Srinivas has trained more than 20 artists who now make incredible art forms, he aims to train more especially the automobile and mechanical engineers to use metal scraps for good purposes rather than dumping it and adding to the metal waste in the landfills.
