Police in Indonesia have arrested two hackers involved in a scam in which $60 million was stolen from a COVID-19 aid program helping Americans.

Footage from April 16 shows officers in East Java presenting the two perpetrators.

The scam involved the sending of 20 million text messages directing US citizens to fake websites.

Thousands of victims supplied the hackers with personal information in the hope of securing a $2,000 assistance package.

Two hackers from Indonesia were arrested by the East Java Regional Police's Ditreskrimsus after breaking into the United States' Covid-19 social assistance worth 60 million US dollars. The perpetrators with the initials SFR and MZM are now being detained.

East Java Regional Police Chief Inspector General Pol Nico Afinta said the case was revealed in the cooperation of the East Java Regional Police's Ditreskrimsus and the FBI.

As a result, the East Java Regional Police arrested two Indonesian citizens (WNI) suspects, each with the initials SFR and MZM. Nico explained that the attack on Covid-19 assistance in the United States was carried out by the suspects by using a fake website of the United States Government regarding Covid-19 assistance.
