A fish in Chennai, India, recognizes the man who rescued him over a decade ago according to this diver.

Footage from April 16 shows the grouper fish swimming up to the diver and allows his embrace, diver Aravind Tharunsri said: “The fish can identify me from a group of divers and even I can identify it from the school of fishes.”

According to Tharunsi, he managed to rescue the grouper from a fishing net in 2011.

15 varieties of fishes are my pals say Aravind tharunsri from temple adventures who is a scuba diver since 2010. A Grooper fish was struck in fishing net in 2011 and when I was diving I saw its struggle and I released from fishing net. From then onwards we are pals says Aravind.
The fish can identify me from a group of divers and even I can identify it from the school of fishes. It comes to me directly when there are a group of divers you can see that in the video itself. I will gently pat it and as that’s our language of communication. The diver also hugs the fish and it just lay simply and reciprocate for his hug. And it won’t allow other divers even to touch it. Even I released 4 Whale sharks that was struck in the fishing net. And those giant swimmers too come to me and express their love by swimming near me.
It’s an awesome feel and I love doing it and I continue to do so.
