Customs officials seize gold worth $44,623 from airport in southern India

Air Customs officials seized gold worth Rs. 33.40 lakh (USD 44,623) from southern India's Chennai International Airport on April 19. The suspects were intercepted at the terminal of the airport.

A video features several bundles crammed with gold paste wrapped in blue and white adhesive tape. Following this, the officials recover molten chunks of gold from within the packets and seize them.

Two accused, identified as Saqgubar Sadiq and Mohamed Abbas Musamil, both hailing from Ramanathapuram, arrived from Dubai by Emirates flight EK-544 were intercepted at the exit. Moreover, on personal search, four bundles of gold paste were recovered from the rectum.

Moreover, one bundle of gold paste was recovered from the sewage dumping area of the Emirates flight. A total of five bundles of gold paste weighing 783 grams (1.7 lbs) were retrieved. On extraction, it yielded around 687 grams (1.5 lbs) of gold worth Rs. 33.40 lakh (USD 44,623). Furthermore, an investigation into the matter is underway.
