An injured heron was rescued after falling and becoming trapped in a river in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The bird crashed into the river and became trapped amongst parts of a wardrobe dumped in the stream.

Footage filmed on April 18 shows a team of animal rescuers lowering a colleague into the river.

After approaching the heron, the rescuer places the bird into his backpack before the pair are hoisted back up to the surface.

One of the rescuers said that the rescue was quick as the bird was calm.

"She was injured on her head and front legs and could not move, stuck. Rescuers gave her first aid and after 30 minutes she returned to her feet," they added.

The heron was then placed in a home for neglected birds.
