Pedestrians' hair stood up on ends when walking past a square in southern China.

The funny video, shot in the city of Yulin in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on April 11, shows pedestrians' hair standing up when they walked past an around 20-metre-long area on a square in front of a shopping mall named Wanda Plaza.

According to an employee from the Wanda Plaza, the oil fume purifiers from an underground barbecue shop used static electricity to absorb the oil in the fuel gas.

The strong air sometimes blows static electricity out, affecting the pedestrians walking past the area.

The mall employees have contacted the manufacturer of the oil fume purifiers and no static electricity has been reported in the area.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
