A CCTV camera in southern India has captured the terrifying moment a toddler fell down a manhole before being rescued by her father.

Although the incident took place on a busy street in Bangalore, passers-by failed to notice the child tumble into the open hatch on a pavement.

After more than a minute, her father came outside looking for the girl and heard her screams from inside the manhole and climbed down himself to rescue her.

Her mother also joined them and was relieved to find the girl in good shape despite her ordeal.

The incident took place on April 3.

This was the chilling moment a little over a year-old girl fell into an uncovered sump that was being filled with water.
