This is the terrifying moment a deadly pit viper emerged on a car windscreen during a rainstorm.

The reptile – with venom strong enough to kill a human with a single bite – slithered out of the body work and onto the windscreen in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 11.

Shocked driver Pongsak tried to bat away the creature using the electric windscreen wipers without success.

Chillingly, the serpent continued peering through the glass like it was trying to reach the terrified driver and his passenger inside.

Pongsak said: ‘I saw the snake and tried to stay calm but I was also scared. I kept driving then pulled over and hoped it would go away on its own. At least it wasn’t inside the car because it could have killed me.’

The driver pulled over and after a few minutes the windscreen wiper pushed the snake to the side of the glass. It then lost its grip and fell to the ground.

The snake seen in the video, with its characteristic large head and piercing eyes, is believed to be the Trimeresurus species of pit viper, which is native to Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent.

It emerged from its hiding place following heavy rain in the city.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
