This is the terrifying moment a warehouse collapsed trapping two people inside after being hit by strong wind from a tropical summer storm in Thailand.

The incident was recorded by security cameras as heavy rain battered the oil storage building in Lopburi province on April 20.

Emergency services rushed to the warehouse but the roads were blocked by trees that were uprooted by the storm. There were also flash floods across the area and lightning.

Rescuers eventually reached the collapsed building and free two workers trapped under a pile of metal sheets which had plunged from the roof. Both were brought out to safety.

Warehouse manager Maneerat Panya, 56, said: ‘This was the worst storm that I’ve ever experienced in my life.

‘When the building was destroyed, I realised that there were two workers who were still inside and quickly called for help.’

Kunakorn Jaemphokul, 34, a worker, said: ‘I felt that the building was shaking and then rumbling noise echoed from every direction putting the biggest fear in my heart.

‘I heard my friend calling for me to get inside a car. Luckily, we escaped into the car just before the roof collapsed.’

The storm caused severe damage across the region. A seven-year-old girl was also killed after being struck by lightning while trying to find shelter for her three dogs.

Local government officials said the damage to the warehouse and other buildings would cost the equivalent of hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair.

The Thai Meteorological Department warned that thunderstorms and gusty winds stemmed from the low-pressure area covering the upper of the country and the westerly and southwesterly winds that brought the moisture from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia are approaching their tropical monsoon rainy season. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
