Former Conservative Party leader Sir Iain Duncan Smith and two other MPs joined a protest in Parliament Square against China’s treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang ahead of a debate on the issue in the House of Commons today (April 22).

Sir Iain said the Chinese government had to be “called to account” over its treatment of the minority groups including Uighurs and Tibetans.

MPs debate a motion by Conservative MP Nusrat Ghani that Uighur people and other religious minorities in the Xinjiang are “suffering crimes against humanity and genocide”.
