Online cricket betting racket busted in southern India

A Special Operation Team (SOT) busted an online cricket betting racket in southern India's Telangana on April 22. The incident took place in Rachakonda.

Video shows several mobile phones and debit cards seized by the officials from the accused. Moreover, several bundles of cash are pinned onto a board for public view.

A special operations team from Rachakonda busted an online cricket betting racket and making an arrest. Following this, the police officials seized Rs. 10.16 lakh (USD 13,559), five mobile phones, 11 debit cards of various banks from the accused. Moreover, four bank accounts amounting to Rs. 19,89,490 (USD 26550) were also frozen.

SOT, in association with Saroornagar Police, raided and arrested Bantu Rajesh in Malakpet when he was accepting online cricket betting from gamblers. Bantu became one of the many local agents to the Ferrari line channel, which is an illegal online cricket betting channel. Moreover, he ran this channel from a rented room located near Saroornagar Police Station.

Bantu revealed that for the past two years he has been running this activity and earned a huge profit through it. Furthermore, his bank account had nearly Rs. 20 lakh (USD 26690) and got frozen following his confession. A total of Rs. 30,55,490 (USD 40,776) were recovered from all the seized items.

The above arrests were made under the supervision of Sri Mahesh M Bhagwat, Indian Police Service, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda Commissionerate, Sri G.Sudheer Babu, Indian Police Service, Additional Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda under the direct guidance of Sri J.Surender Reddy, Superintendent of Police (NC), In-charge of Special Operations Team, Rachakonda, by Sri T.Ravi Kumar, Inspector of Police, SOT LB Nagar zone, Sri A.Seetharam, Inspector of Police Saroornagar PS, Sri A. A Raju, Sub-Inspector of Police & staff of SOT LB Nagar Zone and Saroornagar PS.
