Students occupied the Engineering science learning centre at the University of Nottingham on Saturday (April 24) in protest over £9,000 tuition fees despite a majority of learning taking place online.

The group also protested against the rent for student accommodation which has remained unoccupied due to travel restrictions during the pandemic in the UK.

A number of students have occupied the Engineering science learning centre at the University of Nottingham park campus. The students say the occupation is in protest over the University charging £9,000 tuition fees despite a majority of learning taking place online. The group also say they do not agree with the charging of rent for student accommodation which has remained unoccupied due to travel restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic in the UK.

Joel from University rent strike spoke to me to tell me what the protest was all about. He says that staff have been mostly supportive but the UON has deemed the protest unlawful. He also told me that precation had been taken to stay safe by taking rapid covid tests and remaining socially distanced.
