Hundreds of people have flocked to the breaking fast markets and ignored health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Indonesia.

In footage filmed this afternoon (Tuesday, April 27) in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra province, a road section is closed for 3 hours to be used as an impromptu market specializing in food for breaking the fast.

Visitors and traders seem to ignore health protocols to prevent Covid-19 transmission as many don't wear masks and don't have hand washing facilities.

Social distancing is also difficult because of the number of people there and as people are lining up to buy their favorite food.

This location is one of dozens of other impromptu markets in almost the same condition.

The increase in positive Covid-19 confirmed cases in this country has prompted the Indonesian government since last week to prohibit residents from traveling for Eid homecoming to gather with their families.
