Unions affiliated with South Africa's largest trade union federation, COSATU (Congress of South African Trade Unions), matched to the offices of the City of Cape Town as part of its Worker's Day protest. Hundreds of union members took to the streets to demand better working conditions from the City of Cape Town.

Chris Nissen, a commissioner with the South African Human Rights Commission, attended the march as an observer and said that there was now a global trend with workers organising themselves around the dignity of work.

Archie Hearne, an organiser with the South African Municipal Worker's Union, said they were making the City of Cape Town aware of how unfairly they were treating workers.
