Dramatic aerial pictures show the charred remains of a historic golf club which was destroyed in a suspected arson attack over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Around 40 firefighters spent more than eight hours battling the blaze at Lutterworth Golf Club in Leicestershire after a fire broke out at 10pm on Saturday (1/5) night.

Staff at the 117-year-old club, which charges members up to £1,000 for an annual membership, described the fire as “major”.

A statement on the club's Facebook page said: "Sadly, there has been a major fire at Lutterworth Golf Club.

"The course and club will be closed until further notice. We will give more information when we can."
